Gun Control Legislation

SB650 - Make it a felony to use a firearm or weapon of mass distruction in the commission of a crime.  This bill passed committee and is awaiting a Senate vote.

HB72 & SB67 - Would create a firearm safe storage awareness campaign.  This bill is awaiting committee hearings.

HB49 - Allows for concealed cary on school property during religious services held outside of normal school operating hours.  This bill is awaiting committee hearings.

LGBTQ+ Rights & Protections

HB808 - Bans Gender Affirming Surgery for Minors.  This bill has passed the House and is awaiting a vote in the Senate.

SB49 - Don't Say Gay Bill.  This bill passed the Senate on Feb. 7 and is awaiting the scheduling for a vote by the House in the Committee on Rules, Calendar & Operations.

SB579 - Anti-Drag Bill.  This bill passed the Senate committee and is awaiting the scheduling for a vote by the House.

SB639 & HB808 - Bans Gender Affirming Care for Minors.  This bill is awaiting committee hearings.

SB631 & HB574 - Bans Trans-Athletes in school sports.  These bills have both passed in their originating chamber and have been messaged to the other. 

Minority Rights & Protections

HB10 - Required Cooperation with ICE. This bill requires US citizenship verification of every person charged with a crime and detained in a jail, confinement facility, or work release unit. If US citizenship cannot be established, ICE and Homeland Security are to be contacted. This bill has passed the House and is awaiting a 3rd reading in the Senate. The Senate voted unamiously to pass this bill during the second reading.

HB187 - Prevents teaching that discrimination and oppression are part of American history.  This bill has passed the House and is awaiting scheduling in the Senate.

Supreme Court Ethics Reform

S359/HR926 - The Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency (SCERT) Act.  This is the most comprehensive bill on creating and enforcing a Supreme Court code of ethics.

S325/HR927 - The Supreme Court Ethics Act.  

S1290 - The Supreme Court Code of Conduct Act.  

LGBTQ+ Rights & Protections

S144/HR269 - Transgender Bill of Rights Resolution.  These resolution have been referred to committee where they are stalled.

Gun Control Legislation

S25/HR698 - Assault Weapons Ban of 2023.  These resolution have been referred to committee where they are stalled.

S298/HR625 - Keep Americans Safe Act.  These resolution have been referred to committee where they are stalled.

Volunteers will work with the pantry team to receive and organize donations, prepare ready-to-eat meal kits and any sandwich prep necessary for the White Flag shelter nights. You can help! Along with volunteers, here's what we ALWAYS need....


Youth Social Action Saturday

4th Saturday Every Month

11:30am - 1pm

 

Event for MCC teens and SJMCC kids! - White Flag Shelter food preparation (sandwiches and meal kits) and Pantry Services along with Shelter setup and take down as needed.


White Flag Prep (Seasonal Nov-Mar)

Every Friday

10:30am - 12:30pm

 

Open to all ages, we meet on Friday mornings to prepare sandwiches and nonperishable food items for the Emergency White Flag Shelter.
