St Judes MCC needs our help

In the aftermath of Hurricane Florence, Rev. John McLaughlin and the congregation of St. Jude’s MCC in Wilmington, North Carolina, USA, need your help.

Trees and wires are down on their property and flooding has nearly isolated the city. Resources are dwindling, and in some cases, people are struggling to recover from this disaster.

Pastor Vance Haywood from St. John’s MCC in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, is coordinating relief. He is in frequent conversation with Rev. McLaughlin, and together, they have created a list of needs.

Pastor Haywood said St. John’s has set up a major section of their facility to function as a sorting and storage area for relief donations. They have numerous partners willing to help deliver the items to Wilmington since access is difficult. At this time, he said supplies will need to be flown in until the roads become drivable.

Because electricity has not been fully restored in Wilmington, Pastor Haywood said St. John’s will accept financial donations and supplies and distribute them to St. Jude’s. He added that 100% of the donations will go directly to those impacted.

Additionally, St. Jude’s Food Pantry has been completely wiped out; they have handed out all that they had and lost some food due to the storm. Your donations will not only help the pastor and congregation but also the community.

Donations can be delivered to St. John’s. The address is below. If you would like to donate items that require refrigeration, please call Pastor Haywood first. His cell number is also below.

Each week, Cindy Norton leads us in an unusual Bible Study experience for adults that helps us find new tools for our spiritual journey. It lasts about one hour with lots of time for questions and open discussion.

Women in the Bible

Tool Time at Ten meets on Sunday mornings at 10:00 am in the William Stokes Friendship Hall at St. John's MCC.

missing puzzle piece

Visioning Our Spiritual Puzzle

In the last 5½ years, Cindy Norton has led Tool Time at Ten in 16 different studies. For these 16 weeks, she is leading us in an overview of each of those lessons … one study a week. The first week: “The Seasons of David.” And then “Keeping the Sabbath.”

For each one, we will remember the highlights and, perhaps, remember those things that we have wanted to keep. Even if you were not a part of the original studies, you will benefit greatly from the spiritual wisdom that Cindy found for us.

It’s a fast-paced review designed to help us find that missing piece in our own spiritual puzzle that starts at 10 am each Sunday in the William Stokes Friendship Hall.

St. John's MCC's Food Pantry

The St. John’s MCC Food Pantry and our Lunch Boxes of Love Ministry (LBOL) provide food and other essential items to hundreds of people each month. Through LBOL, we regularly feed people at the South Wilmington Street Center Homeless Shelter for Men, the Love Wins Community Engagement Center, and at our own City on a Hill Community Center on Maywood Avenue.

This ministry has now expanded and is offering food every Sunday as well at our Ministry Facility located at 622 Maywood Avenue in Raleigh.

It is our goal that NO ONE ever leaves our doors hungry.

Our Food Pantry has been established and is currently supporting other local ministries and food pantry’s such as Love Wins Ministries and the Alliance of AIDS Services Carolinas food pantry. Through this ministry we are able to work with local organizations towards a common goal - providing for the needs within our community!

Please see our current needs list for these vital ministries and drop off your donations at our ministry facility located at 622 Maywood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27603.

If you would like for us to pick up your donation, please call us to arrange that at 919.834.2611. We thank you for your support! Because of your generosity, someone will go to sleep tonight knowing that someone cares about them!
