The Love is a Choice book study continued on Friday, April 24th with a look through Chapter 8 of the book, Anger, and Chapter 8 of the workbook, Exploration and Discovery. What an amazing part of the journey this meeting was.
From the book we learned that debilitating, damaging anger comes from a variety of sources including lost childhood – a feeling of having been cheated out of childhood, lack of completeness – feeling like something is missing in you, and lack of fulfillment by others. All of this anger tends to be hidden anger, denied anger that can lead to anxiety attack, severe depression or self-damaging actions.
The workbook began to dig into the heart of codependency with the key premise of recovery being the way out of pain is through it. According to Love is a Choice, “The codependency itself and its related addictions are masks for pain. In order to heal, you must be willing to unmask and face emotional pain.”
We looked at the path ahead, which will first take us deeper into pain to acknowledge and deal with thee issues. Then we will begin the climb out of dysfunction. All of this is a ten stage process that begins with exploration and discovery.
One of the most important lessons is how God fits in. God is waiting to play a big part in our personal healing; granting the wisdom and strength to get us through the valleys and peaks.
Does some of this sound familiar? The next meeting will be in the downstairs classroom of the church at 7 pm on Friday, May 8th. Feel free to join us in this safe space to learn, grow and heal. If you have any questions contact the study leader, Tara, by clicking here.
