Did You Know that ...

Did you know that … Jesus did NOT forgive the Adulterous Woman?

Jesus did More than just Forgive the Adulterous Woman!

In the famous story in the eighth chapter of the Gospel of St. John, Jesus asks the woman who had been caught in adultery, “Woman, where are your accusers?” When she answered that they were gone, Jesus refused to condemn the woman.

No judgment. Not even by Jesus. It makes me wonder just how far “grace” really goes.

Did you know that … “Repent” is an easy first step?

“Repent” is an Easy First Step

The word John the Baptizer and Jesus used, “Repent” actually means “to change your mind.” As the first step toward banishing old, repressive doctrine, all you must do is change your mind … opening it up to another way of thinking about God.

Did you know that … Miracles happen every day?

Miracles happen every day!

While Jesus performed several dramatic demonstrations of God’s power during His ministry and the Apostles also worked miracles for God’s glory for the early church, the miracle of healing transformation continues to happen every day.

Spiritual healing comes when a person allows his or her mind to open to God’s love – draining away all kinds of self-loathing. Do you know someone who wants to be healed?

Did you know that … There are more female images of God in the Bible than male?

There are more female images of God in the Bible than male!

Rev Elder Ken Martin, MCC Churches, visiting St. John's MCC for the May 2010 NC/SC Network MeetingIt is true that there are more male pronouns referring to God in the Bible, but there are more verses in scripture that describe God as the mother hen, the mother bear, the mother wolf … that God is giving birth and that God is like a woman baking bread.

The famous name for God that is often translated as “God Almighty,” El Shaddai, is from a Hebrew word that describes a mother suckling her young at her breast.

Did you know that … Younger people demand that discrimination against them must end?

Discrimination against younger people must end!

Did you know that … Younger people don’t worry about being oppressed as much as they are concerned about discrimination against them?

Rev Elder Ken Martin, MCC Churches, visiting St. John's MCC for the May 2010 NC/SC Network MeetingOlder generations of God’s Rainbow People are in the process of overcoming centuries of oppression in order to find their place in God’s realm.

Younger people, on the other hand, demand that discrimination against them – in all its forms – must end.

Did you know that … Jesus preached two different Gospels?

Jesus preached two different Gospels

Jesus preached one Gospel to the poor and disenfranchised, and He preached another Gospel to the rich and the wealthy and the powerful.

Rev Elder Ken Martin, MCC Churches, visiting St. John's MCC for the May 2010 NC/SC Network MeetingTo the rich and the wealthy and the powerful (who would make people think that God hates them), He said “You’d better get right with God, and you’d better do it now.”

To the poor and disenfranchised, He said, “Don’t listen to anybody else. God loves you just the way you are. You don’t have to change anything.”
